Handling Money & Driving for Work SU 2024

IMPORTANT

Does your PA handle money on your behalf or shop for you?

OR

Does your PA ever run errands for you and use their car?

…YES…

Then this information is for you and it is important, please take your time to read it and call us if you have any questions?

Handling Service Users Money

Some Service Users (SU) request the support of their PA when making financial transactions. Supports requested can range from shopping, online banking and online shopping to support getting into the bank or building society, collecting pensions or social welfare payments from the PO.

PA’s supporting Service Users with their money carries a lot of potential risk and must be very closely managed. To be compliant with our HSE Service Level Agreement we must have a clear policy to cover most of the requests we receive and be able to show that we actively manage it.

Please do not ask your PA to undertake ANY financial transactions on your behalf unless we have a signed agreement set up with you and the named PA.

If this is the sort of support you might need, please call and talk to your coordinator.

Driving for Work

Some Service Users (SU) have a formal Driving for Work Agreement with Cork CIL and their CIL Personal Assistant (PA). The agreement is individual and can range from travelling with the PA in their car or the PA makes a journey at the request of the SU to run errands such as shopping which requires them to use their car when at work.

If a PA uses their car at work and meets the requirement of our Driving for Work Policy, they are eligible for mileage to be paid.  Cork CIL covers the cost of general mileage such as driving between service users.  However, the cost of taking a SU as a passenger or running an errand at the request of a SU has to be passed back to the SU.  We capture this is in personalised Driving for Work Agreement.

If you do not have a signed agreement with Cork CIL, please do not ask your PA to drive on your behalf.

Call us and we will meet with you and tell you about the policy and set up a personalised agreement with you.
