Welcome to the latest Cork Sports Partnership SportsAbility update.

There are anumber of upcoming exciting opportunities for people with disabilities to get active with Cork Sports Partnership and our partners over the coming weeks and months.

Following the success of previous Cork SportsAbility events, this September will see the very first Cork SportsAbility Month take place through Cork City and County. The celebration aims to showcase the best opportunities in Cork for people with disabilities to get active. There will be FREE taster sessions, come and try days, demonstrations, training opportunities and much more including;

03/09/22 – Inclusive Splash & Dash in Fermoy Leisure Centre

10/09/22 – Cork Watersport Inclusion Day in Kinsale

17/09/22 – Cork SportsAbility Day in Mardyke Arena UCC

Cork SportsAbility Month – September 

The inaugural Cork SportsAbility Month will take place throughout Cork City and County this September.

The month-long celebration aims to showcase the opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sport and physical activity throughout Cork.

An estimated 500 people with disabilities and their families are expected to get involved in activities with pathways and opportunities for continued participation being provided where possible.

Cork Sports Partnership has teamed up with a number of partner organisations to coordinate a number of flagship events for the 1st year of the celebration. These include:

03/09/22 – Inclusive Splash & Dash in Fermoy Leisure Centre

10/09/22 – Cork Watersport Inclusion Day in Kinsale

17/09/22 – Cork SportsAbility Day in Mardyke Arena UCC

In addition to these events, CSP is working with clubs, groups and organisations throughout Cork that provide opportunities for people with disabilities to get active through sport and physical activity in their communities.

There is still time for any clubs and groups that provide opportunities for people with disabilities and would like to get involved in the month to register their respective sessions with Cork Sports Partnership to be included in the month-long schedule.

Cork SportsAbility Day – 17th September

Cork Sports Partnership and Cork SportsAbility Forum is delighted to announce the return of Cork SportsAbility Day to the Mardyke Arena UCC on Saturday 17th September. The event which is sponsored by Blackwater Motors aims to highlight opportunities for people with disabilities to get involved in sport and physical activity.

There will be taster sessions, demonstrations and information stands on a whole range of activities including Football 4 All, Boccia, Badminton, Tae Kwon Do, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Rugby and Basketball, Hockey 4 All, Gymnastics and more.

Time: 11 am – 2 pm
Venue: Mardyke Arena UCC
Cost: FREE

This event is suitable for people with disabilities, parents, teachers, coaches or professionals as well as clubs, groups or organisations who have an interest in promoting sport and physical activity for people with disabilities.

Cork Watersport Inclusion Day – 10th Sept

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Cork Watersports Inclusion Day where over 130 people with disabilities and their families took to the water around Kinsale, the event returns to Kinsale again on September 10th.

The event is coordinated by Cork Sports Partnership in partnership with Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre, Surf 2 Heal Garretstown, Sailing into Wellness, SailAbility Kinsale, Kinsale Yacht Club and supported by Sport Ireland, Irish Sailing and Cork Education and Training Board.

Confirmed Activities for 2022 include Sailing, Kayaking, Wheelyboat trips and Surfing!

Inclusive Splash & Dash – Sept 4th

Cork Sports Partnership is delighted to team up with Triathlon Ireland to host an inclusive splash and dash in Fermoy Leisure Centre as part of Cork SportsAbility Month.

The event will see participants take part in a short swim and run, walk or roll in Fermoy Town Park.

Key Information: 

Date: Sunday 4th September
Time: 10 am – 12 pm
Venue: Fermoy Leisure Centre and adjoining Town Park
Cost: FREE
Suitable for: Children with disabilities and their siblings.

Inclusive Learn to Cycle

Cork Sports Partnership has a number of new Learn To Cycle programmes starting over the coming weeks.

This Learn to Cycle programme aims to assist participants to learn how to cycle independently in a fun & safe environment.

Time:

6-12 Years – 4 pm

12-18 Years – 5 pm

Venue: Dunmanway Community Hall
Cost: €30 per person
Suitable for: Youths with a disability

Disability Inclusion Training

This workshop is designed to provide attendees with the knowledge, skills and ideas on how to adapt and modify your sport, physical activity or physical education sessions to make them more accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities.

Attendees will be engaged through interactive group work, theory content and will be introduced to adaptation tools which will be applied to a variety of games and activities on how to make these inclusive for all ability groups.

Time: 9 am – 4:30 pm

Venue: Mayfield Sports Complex
Cost: €45 per person
Suitable for: Coaches, Teachers, Parents, Volunteers and anyone with an interest in inclusive sport.
