Personal Assistance Review Group
The Personal Assistance (PA) Review Group has been established and is chaired by Brian Higgins, Assistant National Director Change & Innovation Disability and Mental Health Services. The PA review group membership consists of senior staff and associates who were selected based upon their experience, knowledge base and organisational awareness of Personal Assistance Services coupled with the strategic imperatives of the organisation. The purpose of the PA Review Group will be to develop a protocol for the eligibility and allocation of personal assistant services based on a universally agreed definition, in collaboration with DCEDIY, disabled people and providers.
Representation of Persons with Lived Experience on the Personal Assistance Review Group
The direct participation of persons with lived experience of PA services to the review group is a critical enabler in developing positive and constructive solutions to changing ways of working and how services are delivered to meet need. The HSE is committed to ensuring that the experience and voice of persons with lived experience of PA forms an active part in producing real change and at the highest level in terms of oversight structures. In order to ensure appropriate representation of both adult and younger people’s experience, the review group will ensure that 2 persons with lived experience of PA will become members of the review group; that is, one member representing young people’s perspective and one person representing an adult perspective.
Eligibility Criteria
o 18 years and older
o Have lived experience of PA and have utilised or accessed disability services
o Be involved and participate within an existing support network
o Demonstrate capacity and experience of working or participation on work relating to the lived experience of Personal Assistance
Lived Experience
Individuals, parents, siblings who have experience of living with PA Services on a daily basis and who have been actively engaged in Health Services/supports for individuals with a disability.
We are currently looking for expressions of interest from individuals with the lived experience of PA Services who are interested in participating in the Personal Assistance Review Group.
